Good to see that Rouge goes from strength to strength. Menu changes every day, excellent location in the town square and Paul and Janice make fine hosts.
It is also possible that Rouge possesses the finest pole cozy in the northern hemisphere. Constructed to reduce the impact of an old lamppost in the middle of the external dining area it has now become a wonder in its own right,
Always good value creative stuff Jon63, UK
I have been hear a few times now and will carry on going back, as I dont live far away.
I can say the portion size is constant every time, and is filling, the flavours of the food is just lovely, the soup divine, when its warm its a lovely little square overlooking a great church, Go for it I will be back, ~Please carry on just the way you are, as I love it thank you
Very good bursting with flavour Blackie06 Riberac, France
Absolutely amazing dinner last night. Every mouthful had incredible flavours exciting you for the next course… and did not disappoint. This little gem was quite a find, but highly recommended by our hosts. Thank goodness Janice hasn’t been snapped up by some ‘celebrity’ chef. She produces very high standard creations. Paul is a very entertaining man. They make a unique team. Looking very much forward to having lunch in a couple of days. Would have eaten every night but only open on Fridays at the moment. Apparently the menu changes every night!! Thanks Janice and Paul.
Possibly our best meal ever! Sue M, Ipswich
Chose this restaurant because it looked nice!
I had for a starter Camembert in a puff pastry very very good, followed by Pork in breadcrumbs on a bed of sweet potatoe mash also great. The family had sweet corn fritters with fries which they also liked.
We’d come again.
Not what we expected Neil L, London
We dined at Rouge on 2 occasions on our family holiday, there’s only a few restaurants to choose from in the area which we also dined in but found Rouge to be the best, having spoken to Paul and Janice, the owners, after our final meal it was a pleasure to find like minded people in the same industry that have a passion, the hospitality from these two is excellent.
As for the food, it is very hearty and packed with flavour, the little jewel comes in the form of a simple salad with Janice’s own secret recipe dressing, packed with flavour and a great palette cleanser, well done guys and a pleasure to meet you both, hopefully we are back in Tocane next year and you will definitely be on the top of our list to visit.
The best meal around Lee M, Halifax
Best in the area..
Been here a couple of times and it never fails to impress. Located in the quiet but stunning town square, Good bistrot service with a small but perfect fresh daily menu.
Staff/owners are very welcoming and will happily speak French or English.
Perfect for a relaxed lunch or lazy evening, very child friendly..
Great Meal Courty65
Originally from Hamilton, New Zealand, we (Paul and Janice and our 2 daughters) arrived in the Dordogne in 2005 for a short family adventure. Falling in love with the region and its quaint villages and ever changing landscapes, we decided to stay and make Tocane St Apre our home.
The property we purchased for our family, had not only a centre-ville location but also a number of older building surrounding a courtyard, which were crying out to be revived and renovated. We spent a good 4 years, at least, bringing these older buildings and courtyard back to life, which is now the charming accommodation, when it became evident that the Village could also do with a cafe. This very quickly turned into a restaurant, and Rouge the Bistrot and Boutique Hotel was born.
It was only after our decision to stay that we started on the renovation of what was our home and its many ancient buildings, into what Rouge eventually turned into today.
Originally from Hamilton in New Zealand, Paul and Janice (and their 2 daughters) moved to Tocane St Apre, in the beautiful Dordogne region of France, in late 2005. Widely known for its beautiful villages and history along with foie gras, truffles, walnuts and huge sunflower fields, it was with pleasure that they opened the doors to “Rouge” Boutique Hotel and restaurant in 2009, following years of renovating the centuries old buildings in their large courtyard. Paul and Janice welcome local clients, holiday makers and international tourists and they look forward to meeting you too, when you are in the area….
